SIMS Metals rethinks the nuts and bolts of their infrastructure
Founded in 1917 Sims Metal Management has grown to be world's largest metals and electronic waste recycler with over 230 sites on 4 continents.
In early 2010 Sims Metal Management's decided to deploy Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager 2010, Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 and Microsoft System Center Operations Manager 2007 R2 in conjunction with their IT provider, Professional Advantage.
The implementation removes the need to use multiple vendors and non-integrated systems and resolved some issues that were occurring with the previous solutions. System Center Operations Manager & System Center Configuration Manager was chosen as there is no equivalent product(s) available from other vendors.
Says Johan Prinsloo, solutions architect with Professional Advantage, "reliability of backups is critical for any organisation. Sims Metal Management had used products from other major vendors in the past, with limited success. Microsoft Data Protection Manager was chosen upon recommendation by us as we had evidence that it could perform reliable backups, and from a disaster recovery point of view provided a trustworthy solution and value for money."
Ted Sisopha – Infrastructure Manager made the following comments, "Professional Advantage presented an integrated solution that covered all our requirements. Their proposal was thorough and enabled us to quickly understand the modules and costing. Having experienced issues with backups and disaster recovery solutions in the past, I was impressed by Professional Advantage's professionalism and the depth of their in-house expertise."
